No-exam life insurance

Eligibility for instant underwriting, how it works, and what happens if you don't qualify.

Many carriers now offer accelerated underwriting: inside certain age and amount bands, they render decisions using the application itself, Rx history, driving records and other data, skipping the paramedical exam. Some offers come back same-day. Every quote listed here notes whether an exam is required, possible, or not needed for that product.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no underwriting. The carrier checks your answers, and a policy built on inaccurate ones can be challenged within two years. If the carrier's records turn up concerns, it may require an exam or labs anyway; you then decide whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally applicants under about 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's instant-decision threshold, with no significant health conditions and no tobacco use for a year or longer. If you had a recent medical checkup with labs, some carriers will use those results instead of an exam.

If you do need an exam, it is typically a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical examiner at your home or workplace in the Santee area, at no charge. Exams frequently improve the rate class for healthy people, so it is not automatically a drawback.
